  1. Family's schedule. Consider your family's schedule and routine when creating your cleaning schedule. Consider everyone's work, school, and activity schedules, and plan your cleaning tasks around them.
  2. Size of the home. The size of your home will determine how much time and effort you'll need to devote to cleaning. For example, if you have a large home, you may need to spread out your cleaning tasks over several days.
  3. Frequency of cleaning tasks. Some tasks, such as washing dishes and making the bed, must be done daily.  While others, such as deep-cleaning the bathroom, can be done weekly. Consider how often each task needs to be done and schedule accordingly.
  4. Priority areas. Identify the areas of your home that require the most attention, such as the kitchen and bathroom, and schedule them accordingly. Make sure to prioritize the most critical areas for your family's health and well-being.
  5. Time management. Time management is crucial when creating a cleaning schedule. Make sure to allocate enough time for each task and be realistic about how much you can accomplish in a day.

As a working mom, you may feel like you’re the only one responsible for keeping your home clean. But that doesn’t have to be the case. 

You can enlist your family members’ help, Including the little ones given specific cleaning tasks that are age appropriate, to lighten the load. You can even use a chore chart to keep everything in order.

Assign age-appropriate tasks to your children, such as making their beds, picking up their toys, or folding a load of laundry. It will help you and teach your kids responsibility and a sense of ownership of the home.

Break It Down

Cleaning the entire house in one day can be overwhelming, especially when you have a busy schedule. 

Instead, break down the tasks into smaller, more manageable chunks. For example, you can dedicate each day of the week to a specific area of the house, like Mondays for the kitchen, Tuesdays for the bathrooms, etc. 

This way, you’re not trying to tackle everything simultaneously, and the tasks won’t feel as daunting.


As a working mom, your time is valuable, and you may not have the luxury of spending hours cleaning every day. That’s why it’s essential to multitask whenever possible. 

When I multitask by doing something to distract me while cleaning, it happens faster and easier.

I like to listen to an audiobook or a good playlist while I clean.  Consuming information or jamming out while cleaning makes time fly by.

  2. Do the dishes. Keeping the kitchen clean is crucial for your family's health and well-being. Make sure to wash dishes, clean kitchen counters, and wipe down surfaces after each meal.
  3. Wipe down surfaces. Taking a few minutes each day to wipe down surfaces such as tables, countertops, and bathroom sinks can make a big difference in the cleanliness of your home.
  4. Sweep or vacuum floors. Daily sweeping or vacuuming can help keep your floors free of debris and prevent dirt and dust buildup.
  5. Tidy up. Taking a few minutes daily to pick up clutter and toys can help keep your home organized and prevent it from becoming overwhelming.

Here’s a sample weekly  cleaning schedule for working moms:

Monday. Kitchen & Dining Room

  • Clean countertops and stove
  • Wipe down appliances
  • Sweep and mop the floors
  • Empty the dishwasher
  • Take out the trash

Tuesday. Bathrooms

  • Scrub the toilet, sink, and shower/tub
  • Clean the mirrors and windows
  • Refill hand soap and toilet paper
  • Sweep and mop the floors
  • Take out the trash

Wednesday. Living Room

  • Dust surfaces
  • Vacuum the floors and furniture
  • Fluff the pillows and cushions
  • Organize clutter and toys
  • Take out the trash

Thursday. Bedrooms

  • Change the sheets and pillowcases
  • Dust surfaces and furniture
  • Vacuum the floors and rugs
  • Organize clothes and toys
  • Take out the trash

Friday. Outdoor Spaces

  • Sweep the porch and walkway
  • Water the plants
  • Clean the grill and patio furniture
  • Pick up any litter
  • Take out the trash

Saturday. Rest Day

  • Catch up on any missed tasks
  • Relax and enjoy time with your family

Sunday. Meal Planning and Preparation

  • Plan the week’s meals and grocery list
  • Meal prep for the week ahead
  • Clean out the fridge and pantry
  • Take out the trash
