To me, every season is good for home projects. But some projects are better suited for certain seasons. Summer is the perfect time to do these six projects and make improvements to your home.
And while we are right smack dab in the middle of summer, it is not too late to get these things done!
The warm weather and hypothetical extra free time you have during the summer months is great for tackling a fun DIY project or two.
Around these parts, summertime is a serious project time!! It gets real.
One of my favorite times of the year. And my husbands most likely dreaded time of year. His “honey do” list gets pretty lengthy in the summer months.
Whether you’re hoping to make improvements to your home’s exterior or want to take on a new inside project, the summer is one of the best times to get it done.
Think about tackling one or more of these six home improvement projects this summer.
6 Home Improvement Projects To Get Done This Summer
Room Renovation
If you’ve been hoping to renovate a room in your home, there’s no better time than the summer. As a matter of fact, this year, I am planning to move around every single room in my home.
Things just aren't as functional as I would like. So everyone is moving to a new room, and hubby and I will get our own offices instead of sharing. Which I am pretty stoked about!
In the summer, you won’t have to worry about the weather causing work delays (as much). And you have the opportunity to take time off work to tackle the bigger aspects of the project if you need to. And it's the real definition of sweat equity around here, cause it gets HOT!
Whether you hope to take on a bigger project like a bathroom or kitchen renovation, or just want to revamp one of your bedrooms, consider starting your room renovation this summer.
Build a Deck
The summertime is the perfect time to enjoy your home’s yard.
And one of the best ways to transform your backyard space is to install a deck.
Decks are perfect for entertaining and they add a lot of value to your home. And the best part about building a deck is that it’s a great DIY project you can tackle during the summer months.
This one is on my honey-do list for this summer too!
Improve Your Curb Appeal
Making some updates to your home’s exterior is another simple project you can tackle in the summer.
Depending on the size of the project you want to take on, there are a variety of easy ways to improve your home’s curb appeal, from enhancing the landscaping to repainting the house.
We just stained and sealed the porch, which makes such a difference. I also added some furniture, created some faux hanging Boston ferns, and built a cute little accent table.
The sun beams directly on my porch late afternoon through the evening. Which is another reason I need that deck. But in the early morning through mid-afternoon, the porch is now the place to be!
Paint a Room
This one's one of the simplest home improvement projects you can get started with this summer. If a full room renovation isn’t something you want to tackle this summer, consider transforming a room by adding a new coat of paint.
Sometimes a new coat of paint is all a room needs and that in and of itself ends up being a whole room transformation. Check out this guide to paint sheens by room to help you get started.

The summer months are a great time to repaint the walls in a room to instantly give it a fresh new look.
Install a New Door
Give your home’s exterior an instant facelift by installing a new entry door this summer. The front door is your home’s first impression for your guests, so having a nice entry door is essential.
In addition to improving the look of your home’s exterior, a new door can also make your home more energy efficient by protecting against drafts.
I chose to install a new front door recently because of the lack of natural light in my living room. By updating my door, my whole living room is more lit, AYE!
Reface Your Cabinets
Transform the look of your kitchen this summer by giving your cabinets a facelift.
There are several ways you can reface your cabinets depending on your budget and timeframe.
For a simple change to your cabinets, add a new coat of paint to the exterior.
And for drastic improvement, replace all the doors and hardware throughout the entire room.
We redid our kitchen cabinets the year we moved in. It was a labor-intensive project if you want to do it right. But it was so worth it. My kitchen looked (and still looks) brand new!
I love summer y’all. And if you love it, and projects, as I do, this list has something for you. And remember, your labor is providing value to your home, so it’s always worth it!
