DIY Basket Weave Planter

Beautiful DIY basket weave planters that serve up all of the Boho vibes.

Nothing says boho like twine, rope, or a good woven fabric. Texture and style. Slightly eccentric and all the way original.

That’s what boho feels like to me. Comfort, cozy, textured laced space.

This planter is a simple contribution to any boho influenced space.

Now the fact that I’m even thinking of a planter may leave you to believe I must have a green thumb.

Let me stop you. ✋🏽

I don’t.

But lately, I have this strong desire to incorporate more greenery into my living space.

I admit my herb garden didn’t make it as planned. And I’m working on a way to get it right that works in my living space.

But I am determined to get some green growth in here that can not only survive but thrive.

I got it from Walmart for only about $13!!

I’ve started with this beautiful Yucca plant. I hear it’s one of the hardest plants to kill. So if this thing dies, I may give up and go artificial green.

But it seems like the perfect plant to be accented by the same style I brought you with my DIY jute stool makeover.

So today I am sharing a Boho-inspired basket weave planter and I am excited about it!! <— exclamations = excitement in case you didn't know.

Materials Needed For Basket Planter

• Glue sticks
• Glue gun
• Plastic planter
• Twisted Manila Rope (1/4 in x 100 ft)
• Scissors
• Gloves (optional)
• Drop cloth (optional)

How To Make a Basket Weave Planter

While it is not required, I like to work on a drop cloth to protect my work surface, also known as my living room floor, free from hot glue.  Also, so when I trim up at the cut robe fibers are easy to clean up.

Make sure you have glue in the glue gun and turn it on to heat up.

Cover your hands with gloves.  While this step is totally optional and has no bearing on the outcome of the project,  it does protect your hands from hot glue and make it easy to wipe away excess if the glue on the rope if it happens.

Starting at the bottom of the planter, put glue on the tip of the end of the rope and press and hold it firmly along the bottom edge of the plastic planter.

Glue a line along the bottom edge of the planter and line the rope around the plastic.  When you reach the starting point, line right above the placed rope, continue to lay the rope a push closely together.

Continue this until you reach the top of the plastic, under the lip at the very top.

Clip the end and glue in the same fashion as the beginning end.

Take scissors and clean up excess rope sticking out.

Place favorite plant and enjoy!

Materials

• ▢ Glue sticks
• ▢ Plastic planter
• ▢ Twisted Manila Rope, 1/4 in x 100 ft

Instructions

 

• Place a drop cloth or something to protect your work surface.
• Heat up the glue gun and insert glue stick.
• Cover your hands with gloves if you do not want to burn yourself or get glue on your hands.  This step is optional and protects your hands from the hot glue and makes for easy cleanup.
• Starting at the bottom of the planter, put glue on the tip of the end of the rope and press and hold it firmly along the bottom edge of the plastic planter. Allow it to dry for a minute or two.
• Glue a line along the bottom edge of the planter and line the rope around the plastic. 
• When you reach the starting point, start a new line right above the placed rope, continue to lay the rope a push closely together.
• Continue this until you reach the top of the plastic just under the lip at the very top.
• Clip the end of the rope and glue in the same fashion as the beginning, on the end.
• Take the scissors and clean up the excess rope that is sticking out.
• Place favorite plant and enjoy!
